SYMPTOM: Low Estrogen Levels
Increase your levels of estrogen by increasing your consumption
of plants which contain estrogenic substances or phytoestrogens:

  • alfalfa
  • soy beans
  • soy sprouts
  • crushed flaxseed
  • garlic
  • green beans
  • sesame seeds
  • wheat
  • papaya
  • oats
  • peas
  • Dong Quail tea or extract
  • yams
  • pumpkin seed
  • cucumbers
  • corn
  • apples
  • anise seeds
  • cabbage
  • beets
  • olives / olive oil
  • sunflower seeds
  • licorice
Natural Remedies for Menopause

SYMPTOM: Hot Flashes

  • Drink 8 glasses of steam-distilled water.
  • Take 800 mg. of evening primerose oil, three times a day.
  • Recipe for Hot Flash Reducing Tincture:
    2 teaspoons of cohosh root tincture.
    1 teaspoon of don quai root tincture.
    1 teaspoon of sarsaparilla tincture.
    1 teaspoon of licorice root tincture.
    1 teaspoon of chaste tree tincture.
    1 teaspoon ginseng root tincture.
    Mix all the ingredients and take 3 dropperfuls a day.
  • Take 40mg of Black Cohosh extract, twice daily.
  • Vitamin C - Although most vegetables contain some vitamin C, those with large amounts include broccoli, beet greens, peppers, parsley, salad greens, citrus fruits, melons, berries, and apricots.
  • Bioflavonoids - usually found in foods high in vitamin C. For instance, the white membrane on the outside of a peeled orange and the whitish ribs inside a bell pepper are extremely rich in bioflavonoids. Berries contain helpful flavonoids, especially Hawthorn berries, elderberries, and bilberries. Red Clover is a phytoestrogen that is high in bioflavonoids.

SYMPTOM: Vaginal Dryness

  • Take 50mcg. of selenium 2,000 mg of vitamin C and 10 mg of beta-carotene (Vitamin A) once a day.
  • Lotion for Vaginal Dryness
    1 ounce of almond oil.
    2 drops of geranium essential oil.
    One capsule of 1,000 IU of Vitamin E.
    Mix all the ingredients and apply inside and outside the vagina twice a day.
  • A solution of calendula and aloe vera can be used as a douche.

SYMPTOM: Bone Density Loss

  • Calcium is a definite must to help prevent osteoporosis.
    Calcium can also help lower blood pressure, reduce triglyceride levels.
  • Magnesium is often found in calcium supplements to boost calcium
    absorption and it can also boost energy levels!
  • Wild Yam compounds may be useful for retaining bone density.

SYMPTOM: Dry Skin

Toners and creams are used to improve the appearance of the skin, to soothe and to nourish.
Here are two recipes:

Dry Skin Toner

2 ounces aloe vera gel. 
2 ounces orange-blossom water. 
1 tsp. wine vinegar. 
6 drops rose geranium essential oil. 
4 drops sandalwood essential oil. 
1 drop chamomile essential oil.
800 UI vitamin E oil

Vitamin A - helps maintain tissues, skin, and mucous membranes -- which can help fight back against vaginal dryness and skin changes that often come with low estrogen levels.

Dry Skin Cream

3/4 ounces beeswax, shaved. (do not use paraffin) 
1 cup vegetable oil. 
1 cup of distilled water. 
800 IU vitamin E (from a liquid gel) 
24 drops rose geranium essential oil

Heat beeswax and oil in a pot until beeswax melts (it should be warm enough to the touch but without discomfort). In a separate pot heat water until is warm to the touch. Remove the center part of your blender’s lid and pour the water in. Turn the blender on high speed and slowly but steadily add the oil and wax mixture. The whole concoction should begin to solidify. Keep adding oil until the mixture does not take any more. Turn off the blender and using a spatula, place the cream in a wide mouthed container. 

SYMPTOM: Depression

St. Johns Wort may be helpful in the short-term (2 years or less) to treat
mild to moderate depression in women (when given in doses of less than 1.2 milligrams a day).

SYMPTOM: Insomnia

  • Valerian (may also help with mood swings and tension)
  • B - Vitamins
  • Estrogen Rich Foods
